Letter from the Philanthropy Chair
My name is Kate Spencer and I am the current philanthropy chair for the Beta Phi chapter of Tri Delta at Centre College. In 1999, Tri Delta nationally partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. At St. Jude, no child is ever denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay, and it has been recognized as the number one pediatric care hospital in the country.
Since 1999, Tri Delta’s relationship with St. Jude has only grown stronger. To date Tri Delta has raised almost $50 million for this incredible institution over the course of various fundraising efforts. Beginning in 2006, Tri Delta committed to raising $10 million in 10 years. This was completed in just four short years. Then, we committed to $15 million in five years. Tri Delta chapters across the nation finished this goal in just 3.5 years. Our current goal that we are trying to achieve is the single largest commitment any partner has ever made to St. Jude, $60 million in 10 years.
Beta Phi has been an active contributor to completing the commitment efforts that Tri Delta has promised St. Jude’s. For the academic year of 2015-2016, our chapter raised over $52,000 and was the top fundraising chapter for our size among Tri Delta chapters across the country. We are in the midst of our philanthropic efforts and most recently, our annual spring philanthropy event, Delta’s House of Pancakes (more commonly known as DHOP) that is an all-you-can-eat pancake buffet, raised $3,800, the most this event has ever raised. We are currently in the process of planning our annual Fall philanthropy event, our Family Weekend Silent Auction, which has brought in between $12,000 and $20,000 in the last few years. In addition to these two events, our Sincerely Yours letter writing campaign raised close to $25,000 this past year for the kids at St. Jude.
Here at Beta Phi, we are committed to raising money and awareness for this amazing organization and the children it supports. With our goals and values on our minds, we are looking forward to another exciting year at Beta Phi, filled with love and excitement for an organization that is so close to our hearts.
